Woman, 61, accused of smuggling £240,000 worth of cocaine into UK is to stand trial

An elderly woman accused of importing approximately £240,000 worth of cocaine into the UK from Brazil is to stand trial in May.

June Margaret Ireland, 61, has been charged with drug importation in connection with an incident at Heathrow Airport on December 10.

As previously reported, Ireland, of Bell Gardens, Haddenham, is accused of trying to smuggle 6kg of the Class A drug into the UK from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The approximate street value of the drugs she is alleged to have imported is £240,000.

Ireland pleaded not guilty when she appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on December 11.

On January 2, she appeared at Isleworth Crown Court where it was agreed she will stand trial on May 12.

Ireland was remanded in custody.

The case has been passed to the National Crime Agency for further investigation.
