Steve Fallon expects Connor Wood to be even more fired up for tomorrow’s Ryman League, North Division top-of-the-table clash at VCD after Soham Town Rangers received an approach from League One club Colchester United for the young defender.

The Greens boss expects left wing-back Wood, 17, to remain at Julius Martin Lane at least until the end of the season and continue to promising form he has shown so far during this campaign.

“Colchester have submitted a seven-day request to talk to him,” said Fallon.

“They want him to go and train with them and have a look at him. But he’s going to be with us this weekend and I hope he will see the season out with us.

“I would think their interest will inspire him more than anything else, knowing that there are people out there watching him.”

Rangers are currently joint-top with VCD, having played more games, but victory this weekend would reaffirm their promotion challenge.

“We’re really looking forward to the game,” added Fallon.

“It’s a great opportunity to go top. There can’t be a bigger incentive than that.”
