Ben Sawyer and George Darling will be on standby as Soham Town Rangers sweat on the availability of in-form striker Luke Stanley for tomorrow’s trip to third-placed Heybridge Swifts in the Ryman League, North Division.
Stanley’s partner is due to give birth on New Year’s Eve so boss Steve Fallon is preparing for the likelihood that he may miss the crucial trip, with Sawyer and Darling the likely replacements.
“It’s going to be a very difficult game for us,” said Fallon.
“We’ll have had four days to recover from our previous match so that’s good but we could be without Luke.
“It will be a big blow to us if he can’t make it but we’ll have to cope without him.”
Sawyer has been suffering from tonsilitis but Fallon expects him and Nick Wilderspin, who returned from illness to take a place on the bench on Saturday, to be fit.
Darling is also likely to be brought into the squad if Stanley is unavailable.
Rangers go into the match on the back of 11 games unbeaten, and having risen to fourth, Fallon wants his team to stay up there.
“You don’t want to lose to the teams around you,” he added.
“We don’t want them to pull away any further so we’ll go there looking for the win and if we have to settle for a draw we will do.”
