Luke Stanley’s double helped Soham Town Rangers come from a goal behind early on to defeat Maldon & Tiptree 3-1 in the Ryman League, Division One North.
Bradley Hunter put Maldon ahead in the fourth minute, but the visitors responded twice through Stanley to lead at the interval.
James McCabe’s good finish 10 minutes from time wrapped up the victory for Soham and manager Steve Fallon praised his side for the way they fought back.
“We didn’t start very well, but we went on to dominate the first half and played well,” said Fallon. “We should have been more than 2-1 up at half time.
“We’ve been playing well and we’ve had a few cup matches recently against teams from higher divisions than us, and we said we wanted to take that form into the league.”
Stanley’s two goals took him to eight in the league so far this season for Soham and Fallon believes he benefitted from a change of tactics against Maldon.
“He’s a very good player,” said Fallon. “We had been focussing a lot more on defence in recent games and it was leaving him a bit on his own.
“But we went a bit more attacking in this game and it seemed to suit him.”
