Andrew Claydon’s first half goal was enough to put Ely into the semi-finals of the Red Insure Cup with a 1-0 win away to Norwich United.

The visitors produced a superb performance to blunt Norwich’s attacks and secure their place in the last four of the competition.

Claydon got the crucial finish, while Austen Diaper and Adam Ben-Saud also went close to adding to Ely’s tally.

Manager Alan Alsop could not praise his side highly enough after securing a semi-final spot.

“They were absolutely superb and it was a magnificent performance,” he said.

“From one to 11, I can’t fault any of them.

“The back four were brilliant and they (Norwich) didn’t really manage a shot.”

Alsop added: “It’s great for the club (to be in the semi-finals) because it means we have still got something to play for.”
