A year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from Sainsbury’s Ely has raised more than £5,000 for the Liam Fairhurst Foundation.

The store has announced that over the last 12 months it has raised a whopping £5,460 for the charity set up in memory of the Soham teenager.

The supermarket, in Lisle Lane, is now looking for its next local charity partner and is urging residents to nominate which organisation they would like them to support.

Store manager Karen Watts said: “Our colleagues have really enjoyed working with the Liam Fairhurst Foundation and it’s certainly touched the hearts of many of them that before didn’t necessary have a direct link to them.

“We know what an important part they play in the community and we hope the year-long partnership has helped remind our customers of the valuable service they provide across Cambridgeshire.

“We are now urging other charities to come forward to take part in this year’s scheme”.

People have until June 8 to vote by either visiting the store or by going to www.sainsburys.co.uk/localcharity.

The store will announce the chosen charity in July.
