A talented schoolgirl is proving it is possible to have both brains and beauty.

King’s Ely sixth-form student Amber Twell has been selected for the prestigious Miss England competition.

Amber, 16, has reached the semi-finals of the major beauty contest and will battle it out among hundreds of other hopefuls in May.

Amber, who lives in March, obtained a Drama Scholarship at King’s Ely and is studying Drama, English, Biology and History at A-level.

She said: “I am intensely interested in fashion and modelling.

“At school I was a prefect and my main ambition is to win Miss England and go to Miss World.”

Amber attended Neale Wade Community College, where she obtained 10 GCSEs before securing her scholarship.

Paula, 45, Amber’s mum, said she is “immensely proud” of her daughter.

She said: “We’re all immensely proud of her. She has achieved so much and I always knew there was something special about her.

“Amber has always wanted to model so this is like a dream come true for her.”

Since Amber was accepted by Stomp Models and Models Plus she has won the Miss Fresh Photographic heat three title and came second in Miss Fresh Teen 2013. She also won the face of the hair group in 2013.

The Miss England semi-finals are being held at Kelham Hall in Newark on May 19.

During the lead up to the semi-final, Amber will be invited to help raise funds for Beauty with a Purpose which helps disadvantaged children worldwide.
