A Waitrose employee is hanging up his uniform after more than a decade.

John Fisher, 69, has worked behind the meat and fish counter at the Ely branch for an impressive 12 years.

He is so well-known by customers and popular with his colleagues that in 2011 he even became one of the faces of the company’s fleet of UK delivery vans.

Father-of-two John, who lives with his wife, Susan, in Henley Way, Ely, said: “I’ll miss working at Waitrose as I’ve made so many close friends there.

“But there does comes a time when your body tells you enough is enough.

“I can usually be found working behind the meat and fish counter but we are trained to work in all roles so I can sometimes be found on the tills too.”

John, who also worked for the BBC in London for more than 30 years, said: “I’m looking forward to relaxing and watching a bit more sport.

“It’d also be nice to have a holiday or two with my wife.” John officially retires on January 31.
