An independent jewellery and gift shop in Ely is closing this month.

Janice and James Mackay, who have run Exquisite in Market Street for 10 years, have decided to retire.

The popular store, which sells jewellery, gifts, fashion and home accessories, will close on Saturday, January 25 - although the couple will still be running the business online.

Mr Mackay said: “It’s obviously sad that Janice and I are retiring and that Exquisite is closing but we’re looking at things in a positive light.

“We’ve been in Ely for 10 years and it’s been a success story for the shop from the very start.

“We started off in one side of the shop and over the years we have expanded into both sides, and upstairs.

“We’ve decided to retire as we want to have more time to ourselves, although we still be running the business online.

“We’d like to thank all our customers for their loyalty over the years and for their wonderful response to us deciding to retire - it’s certainly made the decision easier for us.”

Mr Mackay said a buyer has already been found for the premises but that he was unable to reveal who they were at this stage.

A 20 per cent sale is now on at the store.
