A new roof over the City of Ely Bowls Club has been given the official thumbs up by the city’s mayor.
Cllr Elaine Griffin-Singh and local MP Sir Jim Paice joined members to celebrate the completion of the project.
The work was carried out thanks to a £50,000 grant from Sport England as part of its Olympics 2012 Inspired Facilities programme.
Four club members were selected at random to participate in a special match to commemorate the occasion and played with the club’s current eight England internationals.
Sir Jim and Cllr Griffin-Singh, a former club member, bowled the first shots of the match to enthusiastic support from a large group of members.
The duo also unveiled a plaque to commemorate the grant and congratulated the club and its members on both their recent achievements and the completion of the project.
