A parish council chairman has stood down after more than two decades at the helm.
Ashley Bamforth has decided to stand down as chairman of Witcham Parish Council after around 22 years in the role.
Mr Bamforth, who has lived in the village with his wife, Janet, since 1984, said: “I just decided it would be good to let someone new have a go.
“I’m still on the parish council, although I don’t think I’ll stand in next year’s election.
“22 years is a long time and we have done a lot in the village during that time, such as persuading the county council to take over the responsibility for all the village’s street lights. We also recently assisted the village hall committee in upgrading the village hall.
“A parish council is effectively the voice of the local people, and being chairman has been a great pleasure.”
The new chairman is Mick Housden. There is currently a vacancy at the parish council. Call the clerk, Sue Bell, on (01353) 778147.
