Nottingham Playhouse’s ‘The Second Minute’ is coming to the Ely area this weekend.

As part of this year’s Isle of Ely Arts Festival and to mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War, it is the company’s first rural touring show in more than a decade.

Performances are being held at the Arkenstall Centre in Haddenham on Saturday (June 14) and the Ellesmere Centre in Stetchworth on Sunday (June 15).

A spokeswoman for ADeC, which is running this year’s arts festival, said: “The Second Minute explores the emotional impact of the war on the men who became soldiers and the families they left behind.

“It is based on the letters collection from the archive of the Sherwood Foresters regiment. The play is simply staged, poignant and uplifting, telling of harvests, gas attacks, births and deaths; exploring how letter writing managed to hold the country together whilst a whole generation of men was being destroyed.”

Tickets are £8 or £6 for concessions.
