West End actress Rachel Rawlinson will be starring in one of Ely’s fast-approaching pantomimes.

The actress due to play the title role in Jack and the Beanstalk, which is being staged at The Maltings this Christmas, was no longer able to join the cast, who started rehearsing this week.

But Soham-based KD Theatre Productions, which is staging the panto, has managed to persuade Rachel, who has starred in WAG! The Musical, Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to take on the role.

Producer Daniel Bell said: “I was delighted when we saw Rachel; she is the perfect Principal Boy. Not only that, but she has been in an amazing five West End musicals.

“It will be great for Ely.”

Jack and the Beanstalk opens on the December 26 and runs through to January 14. Tickets are available by calling (01638) 781037 or by visiting www.kdtheatre.co.uk.

‘Cinderella’ is also coming to Ely this Christmas time.

The city’s award-winning Campaign Amateur Theatre group is performing the classic fairytale at Ely College from December 12-14.

Tickets are available from Burrows Bookshop in Ely or by visiting www.cately.ticketsource.co.uk.
