Written byJORDAN DAY

Twenty new priests and deacons have been installed in the Diocese of Ely.

During two special services at Ely Cathedral on Saturday and Sunday, and in front of the candidates’ families and friends, the Bishop of Ely, the Rt Revd Stephen Conway, laid hands on and anointed the men and women for their work of ministry in the diocese.

Reflecting on the ordinations, Bishop Stephen said: “It is a great encouragement to me and to the church at large that I have ordained 20 new deacons and priests at Ely Cathedral.

“These are people who range from their 20s to nearly 70 who have answered God’s call and who are making great sacrifices to be a sign of hope and encouragement to all Christian disciples.

“Ten are continuing ministries already established in our parishes, ten are new but with established identities in our region.

“I welcome them all as colleagues who are joining me and the other clergy as servants of Christ and the Common Good in our parishes.”

The new priests are: Richard Alldritt, Lesley Nicole Bland, Judith Bolton, Jonathan Canessa, Geoffrey Dumbreck, Maxwell Kramer, Peter Myers, Mark Scarlata and Berkeley Zych.

The new deacons are: Sarah Christine Atkins, Bridget Baguley, Simon Bridges, Imogen Falvey, Judith Gretton-Dann, Helen Orr, Judith Polkinhorn, Jane Rees, Petra Shakeshaft, Eleanor Whalley.
