A teenager battling a rare bone cancer has enjoyed a trip of a lifetime thanks to a charity - and a local couple.

Kristyn Farley, 14, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2012 and is currently undergoing extensive treatment.

Kristyn lives with her parents, Jim and Renata, and two sisters, Katelyn and Meghann, in Knoxville, America, but Jim and Renata used to live in Ely.

The brave teen has always wanted to come to the UK not only to visit London but also see the area where her parents used to live.

Thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and a little help from local couple, Howard and Carol Budge, who are friends of the family, that wish was made true earlier this month.

Kristyn and her family got to see the sights of the capital, including the London Eye, Madame Tussauds and the Harry Potter Warner Bros studios.

But thanks to support from Mr and Mrs Budge, they were also given tours of RAF Lakenheath, where her parents and Jim used to work, before visiting Ely Cathedral.

They also managed to see the house in Ely that Jim and Renata used to live in, stayed in a local hotel and enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner in a local restaurant.

Speaking about the trip, Reneta said: “We are so grateful to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Howard and Carol for making Kristyn’s wish come true.

“It was a wonderful trip and Kristyn did great. She really is a trooper.”

Ely firm Jolly Good Van Hire provided a vehicle to help the family during their visit to the city.
