A dance and music extravaganza in Soham has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

More than 120 people came together at The Brook on Saturday, November 9 for ‘Step Forward’.

The event saw dance schools and acts from across the region performing to raise money for the Lisa Barnes Memorial Fund, which is in turn raising funds for the Arthur Rank Hospice.

Revellers enjoyed a wide variety of dance styles from hip hop to ballet and tap to belly dancing.

Schools involved included The Feathers School of Dance, Octagon Studios and Suspects Cru from Funk It Up, as well as performances from Evie Hart, now part of the National Youth Dance Company and recently formed, 4th Dimension, a dance troupe for ex-dancers.

Reptile handler and former zoo keeper, Grace Dickinson, from Oakington, also took to the stage as ‘Good Gracious! Snake Charming Goddess’.

Sara Ford, a local dance teacher who organised the event, said: “The support received was amazing - from the guests to the acts and everyone else who was involved.”

A total of £1,019 was raised for the fund and Sara hopes to be able to make the event an annual occasion.
