Sweet-sounding children from Ely have reached the finals of a prestigious competition.

St Mary’s Junior School’s choir has been selected as one of the finalists in children’s charity Barnardo’s National Choir Competition.

The annual contest is being held on March 3 at The Barbican in London.

Out of the 85 members of the school’s choir, 41 will be representing the school to compete against 17 other junior choirs.

Hazel Law, director of the choir, said: “We’re all ecstatic.

“This is the first time we’ve entered the competition and to have reached the finals is amazing. According to the organisers, the standard is the highest yet.”
