SLIDESHOW: Hundreds turn out for model railway exhibition at Ely College

Written byJORDAN DAY

Model railway enthusiasts were in their element in Ely at the weekend.

Ely and District Model Railway Club held its annual exhibition at Ely College on Saturday.

Railway modellers, railway enthusiasts, families and the curious flocked to the event from far and wide.

There were more than a dozen layouts in various gauges and scales for visitors to browse, as well as outdoor steam train rides and trade stands selling new and second-hand model railway equipment and books.

A spokesman for the club said: “We had a super exhibition - the weather was brilliant and so was the turnout.

“We are a local, amateur model railway club made up of around 20 members.

“We enjoy a very good reputation for staging an interesting and professionally run annual show, and the main aim of the exhibition is to promote our hobby.

“It’s always nice to see lots of families attending and the children loved the steam train rides in the sunshine.

“There was also plenty of advice from exhibitors and club members for anyone thinking of making a start in the hobby.”
