SLIDESHOW: Ely St Mary's pupils take to the water at Ely Sailing Club

Written byJORDAN DAY

Pupils are enjoying a break from their classroom - by donning their life jackets and taking to the water.

Students at Ely St Mary’s Junior School, in High Barns, are learning how to sail at Ely Sailing Club.

A total of 82 children have been divided into six groups and are having two days sailing each in order to gain their Stage One RYA sailing qualification.

A spokeswoman for Ely Sailing Club, which is based in Prickwillow Road, said: “The children will then become members of the club and we are hoping they will come to sail with us when the club is open.

“Despite some unkind weather conditions, the children have shown they are up for a challenge.

“They really have been a credit to their school with their positive attitude and enthusiasm.”
