Purse snatch prowlers warning in Cambridgeshire in run-up to Christmas

Purse snatchers are on the prowl targeting shoppers in the run-up to Christmas, police have warned.

Officers in Ely have received two reports of purses going missing from handbags while in the city centre.

A police spokeswoman said: “While we are unable at present to attribute these incidents to purse dippers or pickpockets, it is certainly something to be aware of when you are out doing your Christmas shopping.

“Please make sure that you are taking the necessary steps to secure your personal belongings when you are out and about and also be aware of anybody who is acting in a suspicious manner.

“If you see anybody acting suspiciously or suspect you may have been a victim of this crime type then please let us know on 101.”
