Bar 62, in Newnham Street, threw its doors open for the quirky challenge on Saturday afternoon.

The main focus of the competition was a mammoth 26cm-high burger crammed with two homemade burgers, bacon, three sausages, hash browns, cheese, lettuce, tomato – all sandwiched together in a burger bun.

And if that wasn’t enough for competitors to get their teeth into, they were also challenged to devour three sides – spicy barbecue beans, chunky chips and curly fries.

Five people took part and were given an hour to put their eating stamina to the test.

The winner was Peter Hubbard, who finished the challenge in 31 minutes 50 seconds. For coming first, he won £40.
