Pupils and staff at Spring Meadow Infant and Nursery School in Ely are on a high.

The school, in High Barns, has been rated as ‘good’ in all areas in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Inspectors said pupils achieve good results, that they behave well, and that the quality of teaching is either good or outstanding.

“Pupils reach standards that are significantly above the national average overall by the end of Year 2,” they said.

Their report added: “Teaching is good and this enables pupils to make good progress in most lessons.

“Pupils behave well and feel safe in school. They have positive attitudes to learning.”

Inspectors were particularly impressed by children’s achievements in the nursery and reception classes, writing that pupils develop early reading skills “exceptionally well”.

Sheila Sands, the school’s head, said: “This is the result of a lot of hard work by children, staff and governors.

“I am delighted that the inspectors have recognised that effort, and we are all very proud to belong to such a happy and successful school.”

Nichole Francis, chair of governors, added: “Everyone at Spring Meadow is committed to giving our pupils the best possible start to their education. I’m thrilled that Ofsted has recognised the school’s achievements.”
