Ely’s Sainsbury’s store has a new manager.

Alex Bettison, who has worked at the Lisle Lane store since it opened in February 2012, has taken on the manager’s position at Sainsbury’s in Bury St Edmunds.

He has worked for the supermarket giant since the tender age of 16, clocking up many years in various store roles across the region.

He was manager at Sainsbury’s in Bretton prior to his move to the Ely store.

Mr Bettison said: “Opening Ely has been a fantastic experience that not many people get to do in their careers.

“I am honoured in that respect but more so for the fact that it is a beautiful city with what can only be described as a fantastic team of people that have made the store into the great place that is is both to work and shop in.

“I am really sad to leave and will miss the store and its colleagues and customers greatly but I am really proud to hand it over in great shape to its new manager.

“Ely will always hold a very special place in my heart and will not be forgotten.”

The store’s new manager is Karen Watts, who has been manager at Sainsbury’s in Attleborough for six years.

She said: “It’s a lovely new store and I’m thoroughly looking forward to my time here, getting to know the colleagues and customers.”
