Meet East Cambridgeshire’s newest on-call firefighter.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) has seven new on-call firefighters, also known as retained firefighters.

Andrew Boughen, 36, pictured, is now helping to tackle flames and save lives with the Littleport crews.

A spokeswoman for CFRS said: “The on-call firefighters are trained professionals who respond to emergencies in their communities alongside their day-to-day lives.

“They may be at home, work or out and about when they receive a pager alert and straight away they must jump into action and get ready to deal with any incident.

“The new recruits are now on-call after completing their training at Huntingdon, which ran from September until December.”

Andrew works for DS Smith Packaging.

CFRS is recruiting for on-call firefighters in the Ely area. To find out more, call (01480) 444500 or visit www.cambsfire.gov.uk.
