Jack Ure's family pay tribute to their "wonderful" son

Written byJORDAN DAY

The parents of teenage crash victim Jack Ure have paid tribute to their “dear and wonderful” son.

18-year-old Jack, a student at Ely Sixth-Form College, was killed in an horrific three vehicle crash on Thursday, June 20.

He was driving a Renault Clio when it was in collision with a Mercedes and a Land Rover at the bridge in Sandhill, Littleport, at around 2pm.

Jack had finished his final A-level exam just hours before the accident happened.

Jack lived with his parents, Tony and Emma, and sister, Lucy, in Pymoor.

In a statement released by his family this morning (Monday, June 24), Jack’s family paid tribute to him as a “very bright young man with a wicked sense of humour”.

They said: “Jack,

“A dear and wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to all he came in contact with.

“He was a very bright young man with a wicked sense of humour.

“He was at the centre of numerous escapades both in and out of college, but was always able to extricate himself with his quick wit and winning smile.

“Jack was an active learner and fully involved himself in college work and life style.

“He was also a much loved member of the community, working in the local village shop for the last four years.

“No one thought more highly of Jack than he did himself, but with his tongue firmly in his cheek.

“Never afraid to voice opinion, he loved a debate and would happily take the opposing view to everyone else, just to prove that he could win the argument.

“Our favourite ‘Ureism’: ‘I’m kind of a big deal’ is now immortalised in a mural by his friends at the college.

“A sport lover, he was a popular captain of the college football team and a talented player. He was however, knowledgeable about pretty much any sport and always willing to talk sport.

“He was a popular member of the small Ely Sixth-Form College. He finished his last A-level exam on Thursday morning and left the college in high spirits, promising to see everyone at the summer ball, where he’d been nominated for a number of awards - none of them for his work!

“We would like to take this opportunity to say how proud we are of his friends and acquaintances, thanking them for their support in this difficult time.

“We love you Jack, mum, dad, Lucy and all the family.”

Hundreds of tributes have also been paid on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

Brandon Weller tweeted: “Just thinking about when we was best mates and use to play football together, had great times and laughs, gonna miss you jack ure XX”

Darren James Youngs tweeted: “Gutted about the news I just heard! Way too young :-( RIP Jack Ure” and a friend has started the hashtag #wearblackforjack in honour of his passing.

Jack’s two passengers, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, both from Littleport, are seriously injured.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 65-year-old woman, and the driver of the Land Rover, a 45-year-old man, were both taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries.

A spokeswoman for the Magpas said: “When the helimedix team arrived sadly one of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with family at this time.

“The Magpas team assessed and administered pain relief to another occupant, a man in his late teens who had suffered a pelvic injury.

“They applied a pelvic splint before taking him in a land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where on arrival he was in a serious but stable condition.

“Three of the other patients had a multitude of minor injuries and were taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the accident to call them on 101.
