Robert Barnes - the Ely man who has vowed to raise £100,000 for charity in memory of his wife - is just pounds away from achieving his target.

In fact, he is hoping to smash that amount at a special event at The Townhouse, in Market Street, Ely, on Sunday (May 25).

Local businessman Robert, of West Fen Road, set up the Lisa Barnes Memorial Fund three years ago.

Lisa died in September 2010, aged 57, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Her final days were spent at the Arthur Rank Hospice, and in her memory, Robert set up the fund with the aim of raising £100,000 for the charity.

The event on Sunday night, entitled ‘The Final Countdown’, will include live music, a bumper quiz and raffle, and the chance to win a ‘publican’s hamper’ packed with goodies. The fun kicks off at 9pm.
