Two charities are more than £700 better off each thanks to Nellie’s Community Cafe in Sutton.

The cafe, which meets in the village twice a month, not only enables locals to make new friends but also raises much-needed funds for local charities.

Every six months, its volunteers choose two different beneficiaries to support and the latest organisations have just been presented with an impressive £710 each.

The chosen charities were the Triangle Day Care Club in Sutton and the Upside Down Sports Club in St Ives.

Helen Malkin, one of the volunteers, said: “We were delighted to be able to present both clubs with substantial sums of money.

“Times are tough at the moment so we hope the money will give each club a helping hand.”

The charities which will benefit from the cafe over the next six months are the Friday Games Club in Sutton and Brainwave, which volunteers chose in memory of Jacob Wright, from Sutton, who died aged just 16-months.

The cafe is open on the second Wednesday of the month at the school community room and on the last Friday of the month at Scott Court sheltered housing scheme.
