A little boy who suffers with severe epilepsy has been treated to the holiday of his dreams.

Jacob Attlesey, 10, has recently returned home from an adventure-filled trip to Orlando, Florida, courtesy of the Dreamflight Children’s Charity.

Jacob, who lives with his family in Witchford and is an active member of the village’s cub group, got to swim with dolphins, feed sharks and fight a light sabre battle with Darth Vader.

Brave Jacob has spent the last few years undergoing treatment for his condition - including invasive surgery - and was nominated for the trip by the specialist nursing team at Fulbourn Hospital.

Talking about his holiday, he said: “I had lots of fun. I really enjoyed the light sabre battle with Darth Vader and feeding the sharks.”

Jacob has been able to join the cub pack in Witchford thanks partly to the Cambridge Inclusion Program.

As a new cub, he started out on his everyday adventures with his multiple anti-epileptic drugs and steroids to reduce his seizures.

Jacob had also lost his ability to speak - something which presented an extra challenge for his leaders - but thanks to the program and the leaders’ support, he has been able to grow from strength to strength.

Scout leader Chris Lowe said: “Since joining the cub pack, Jacob has come on in leaps and bounds and he tries to take part in everything on offer to the rest of the group.

“Looking at the difference between him now and when he joined, there has been a remarkable change in his confidence and Scouting has certainly helped him become a better person.”

Jacob’s father, Lee, added: “Being actively involved in the Witchford Scout Group, who have supported and encouraged him in numerous activities including camping and team building activities, has improved his confidence and increased his circle of friends.”
