Ely sparks inspiration for new book of ghost stories

Written byNATALIE ROBINSON

From ghosts and ghouls to things that go bump in the night, a man from Ely has used the town for illustration inspiration for a book of ghost stories

Howard Barker, a professional graphic designer and keen illustrator, has designed illustrations for Strange and Ghostly Tales, written by his father C. Barker-Holmes.

Mr Barker said: “It’s a collaboration between me and my dad.

“He started working as a psychiatric nurse back when there were padded cells so he has a lot of stories to tell.

“I take a lot of inspiration from my surroundings and living in Ely the cathedral is beautiful but also can have a creepy atmosphere.

“One of the stories in the book was one that he used to tell us when we were children 20-something years ago.

But is he a believer in all things paranormal?

“I’ve had one experience before and I think I’m curious.”

The book is available in Amazon and Waterstones now.
