Talented baker Ruth Sindall is putting Ely on the map in a prestigious competition.

Ruth, who lives in the city and is vice president of the Ely City Women’s Institute (WI), won the Isle of Ely heat in the WI National Centenary Fruit Cake Competition with her delicious fruit cake.

Now her own fruit cake recipe has gone on to win the regional semi-finals - beating entrants from 12 WI federations in the East of England.

A prize of a full set of Topsy Turvey cake tins was presented to her at the Cambridge WI Federation Centre in Girton, Cambridge.
