Eight people were involved in a three-vehicle collision on the A142 Soham Bypass.

The horrific collision happened near to the old garden centre at around 12.45pm on Boxing Day (December 26).

Emergency services, including the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS), Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) and Cambridgeshire Police, attended.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to remove a roof, two rear doors, rear seats and a tailgate to release three casualties from one vehicle.

Three other casualties did not require releasing by the fire service.

A spokeswoman for the EEAS said: “There were eight patients in total.

“We took four patients to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by land ambulance.

“They were all suffering with suspected neck and back injuries although they were all in a stable condition when they arrived at hospital.”

CFRS Watch Commander Jon Wade said: “This was a slow-time extrication which was done in a sensitive manner to minimise the distress to the family members trapped with back, neck and leg injuries.

“All the emergency services worked extremely well together to deliver a safe and efficient outcome.”

The road was closed for some time while the patients were treated and the vehicles were recovered.
