The Christmas tree is up and the annual festive collections start in Soham this Saturday (November 30).

As ever, the tree was felled and transported by members of the Soham Staploe Rotary Club, with the invaluable help of Mr Palmer’s breakdown truck.

Once again the tree was generously donated by the Chippenham Estate.

This year, the charity street collections will mainly benefit Magpas.

Collections start on Saturday and will be held every Saturday throughout December, culminating on Christmas Eve.

Rotarians will also be bearing buckets outside Budgens, the Co-op, Scampers and Fordham Garden Centre at various times.

The annual Rotary Carol Concert in St Andrew’s Church will be a little different this year with the main focus being on the new church organ.

The music will start at 7.30pm on Wednesday, December 18 with free entry, but there will be a collection for the Philippines Disaster Relief Fund.
