Call for youth groups to take part in tent set-up race at Ely Aquafest

Written byJORDAN DAY

Shelterbox tents. Shelterbox tents.

Youth groups and organisations in the Ely area are being invited to take part in a quirky tent set-up race.

The challenge is being held for the first ever time at this year’s Ely Aquafest on Sunday, July 6.

Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Girl Guides, Army Cadets, Air Cadets and other youth groups are free to enter the Shelterbox competition in Jubilee Gardens.

The race is being organised by the Ely Hereward Rotary Club to raised awareness about Shelterboxes, which are emergency tent and provisions designed to be flown quickly to disaster areas around the world.

Teams of up to five people will have to unpack a Shelterbox, erect the tent (under supervision), lay out the kit and then dismantle the tent and re-pack it in its box.

Marks will be awarded for team work, observation and how long it takes to complete the exercise.

There will also be a £50 prize for the winning team.

The deadline for entries is June 30.

To register your team or for more information, call Gary Gardner on (01353) 749057.
