A man arrested by police in connection with a car accident which claimed the life of a young woman has been bailed.

Police confirmed this morning (Friday) that the 43-year-old man, from Ely, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The man was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through either drink or drugs following a devastating three-vehicle collision which happened near Broad Baulk, in between Little Thetford and Stretham, at around 7.45pm on Wednesday.

Tania Macedo, 25, of Welland Place, Ely, died in the collision.

Tania was a front seat passenger in a blue Honda Civic, which was being driven by the man arrested.

He suffered a serious but not life threatening injury, according to police.

A 3-year-old girl was in the back of the vehicle at the time and also suffered a serious but not life threatening injury.

The child was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where it is believed she still remains.

The other vehicles involved in the collision were a blue Renault Megane and a silver Volvo.

The driver of the Volvo, a 34-year-old man, was uninjured.

Two passengers in the vehicle, a 38-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy, both from the Ely area, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Renault, a second 43-year-old man, was uninjured.

A police spokesman said the man has been bailed until December 19.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident, or anyone with any information, to call Sgt Paul Tanner on 101.
