Compassionate students are going out of their way to help orphaned children in Bulgaria.

Sixth-form Psychology students at King’s Ely were so shocked by a documentary they watched on Bulgarian orphanages as part of their studies that they have decided to donate boxes full of essential supplies.

As well as collecting basic necessities such as toothpaste, toilet rolls and soap, students will be shipping out luxury goods including clothing and toys in the hope they can bring a smile to the faces of the orphans.

The boxes are being sent via the Linda McDonald Foundation in Northern Ireland.

In every single large town in Bulgaria there is an orphanage coping with between 50 and 120 children at any given time, ranging from a few days old to the age of 18.
