Two organisations are hundreds of pounds better off thanks to a community cafe in Sutton.

Nellie’s Community Cafe is open twice a month for residents to enjoy homemade cakes and catch up with friends, with all the money being donated to local charities or clubs.

Every six months the volunteers choose two different charities to support and the latest beneficiaries are Sutton Games Club and national children’s charity, Brainwave. The games club received £200 and Brainwave received £1,025.

The volunteers chose Brainwave as local couple Claire and Bob Wright are raising funds for the charity in memory of their son, Jacob, who died in April 2012, aged just 16-months.

The cafe is open on the second Wednesday of the month at the school community room and on the last Friday of the month at Scott Court sheltered housing scheme.

For more information about the cafe, or to volunteer, call Helen Malkin on (01353) 777224.
