The Bishop of Ely hosted a credit union garden party at his home this week.
Sir Hector Sants, who chairs the Archbishop’s Task Group on Responsible Credit and Savings, spoke at the event.
Guests included volunteers from Rainbow Saver Anglia Credit Union (RSACU) and Eastern Savings and Loans Credit Union.
Bishop Stephen Conway, who is a member of RSACU, welcomed over 90 people to his garden.
All funds raised were divided between the RSACU and Rural Cambridgeshire Citizens Advice Bureaux.
Organiser Sally Chicken said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to tell people why the Archbishop set up the task group.
“We invited a wide range of people from Ely and the surrounding area to enjoy the bishop’s hospitality in his beautiful gardens.
“After speaking about the task group, Sir Hector asked for a debate and topics ranged from governance, widening membership and borrowing, to how credit unions could start offering business loans.”
