A project which sees a three-times European karate champion helping young people fight the problem of bullying is celebrating its first anniversary.

Ely-based fighter Nato Ficarra, who has won every single one of the 120 fights he has fought in, joined forces with Witchford Village College last January.

The scheme, which sees him visiting the school on a regular basis to talk about and demonstrate the martial art, was only meant to be an eight-week pilot but was such a success that it has become a permanent arrangement.

Nato, who also runs a martial art academy for young people in Ely, said: “The project is not just about kicking and punching, it’s about shaping the children’s personalities and building their confidence.

“Karate teaches them that if they have got a goal, martial arts will help them achieve anything.”

Call Nato on 07907 892076 for more information.
